Physical fitness Cardio-vascular endurance
Physical fitness Cardio-vascular endurance Fitness components in sport Health related components Cardio-vascular endurance Cardio-vascular endurance is how the body supplies oxygen to fuel the muscles when participating in sport or high endurance events and situations. It does this through the heart, blood vessels, blood and respiratory system. Footballers need cardio-vascular endurance when the play because they need to be able to run throughout the whole 90 mins. Oxygen to the muscles is what allows them to do this. Swimmers need cardio-vascular endurance when they do long distance races e.g. 1500m swimming race where their body need a descent supply of oxygen to the muscles from start to finish. Boxers need to have excellent c-v endurance to be able to compete at a strong pace throughout a fight. Their muscles need oxygen in order to work throughout a fight so that they can throw punch after punch and block after block. Both these motions need the muscles to contract, flex and tense. Muscular endurance Muscular endurance is the ability to perform repetitive or sustained muscular contractions against some resistance for an extended period of time. Muscular endurance allows athletes to do more strenuous work. Footballers need muscular endurance to be able to repeatedly use muscles throughout a match e.g. in sprinting a player uses the quads and caths over and over throughout the game. In swimming they use their muscles continually over the race e.g. in butterfly they use most if not all the bodies muscles to drag themselves through the water. Boxers need muscular endurance to be able to continuously throw punches from round one to round twelve because they need to be swinging away for the whole fight but if they cant then they wont be able to fight the whole twelve rounds. Muscular strength Muscular strength is the ability of an athlete to perform a sport at a sustained high tempo for a short amount of time. Footballers need muscular strength to be able to exert strength when they shoot the ball from a long distance so that it travels fast and with power towards their target. Swimmers use strength when they push of the back board after a length in order to start the next lap. This requires the use and strength from the quads, calfs and foot muscles for the push off. In boxing when a fight needs to dodge a shot they may use the tactic of leaning back to avoid the punch. This requires the use the abdominal muscles. These need strength to be able to support his upper body as he leans back. Flexibility There are two types of flexibility. They are static flexibility and dynamic flexibility. Static is when an athlete slowly stretch and hold the position for a period of time. Dynamic is when an athlete makes a quick movement in which they stretch. In football a goal keeper needs flexibility when he stretches for the ball e.g. when the ball is heading for the top corner. Swimmers need good flexibility to be able to stretch their arms out properly and have a good stroke length e.g. Michael Phellps showed good flexibility when he was waiting on the starting board by showing his arm span and stretching it to its relaxed max before the start of the race. Boxers dont really need too much flexibility but the one time they do need is when they lean back. They stretch the back throughout this movement. Body composition Body composition is the amount of fat, bone and muscle in the human body. Athletes need different body compositions to perform different sports. Footballers need to have a slim body composition because they need to be able to carry their weight around the pitch. If a footballer is fat then it makes it harder to run for long periods and also makes it harder to carry their own body weight. Swimmers need to be slim so that they can travel through the water faster and smoother. Depending on a boxers weight class a boxer needs to big and heavy or thin and light. This is so they can perform fairly at their weight class. Skill-related fitness Balance Balance is a skill that is naturally learnt after birth but can be developed further by an athlete so they can perform their sport properly. Balance is important because we must stay in a state of complete balance when performing are sports So that we dont fall over when performing. Some athletes need more balance than others. Footballers need balance when they shot. They put their arms into a supportive stance for when they hit the ball so that they dont lose their balance. Swimmers need balance when they are getting ready to dive in at the start of a race. A good balance can give them a good start allows them to get a head start. Boxer need balance so they can throw strong punches and put their whole body weight behind the shot also when they dodge shots they need to have good balance to enable them to recover into the stance quicker. Speed Speed is the quickness of a limb over a distance in time but it does not just affect the legs it involves all limbs and body parts from legs, torso to arms. Some footballers need to be fast this needs speed e.g. a winger needs speed because he is expected to run the lines to create the opposition with a problem. Swimmers need speed when they lash through the water to keep a good stroke per minute time. Boxers need speed when they throw a jab so that they can catch the opponent off guard and also so they can get out the way of any counter punches. Power Power is the ability to apply force quickly. A simple equation for power is: muscular strength X speed = Power. http://somatotype.net/nzfitness/pages/CompOFfit.htm . Power contains speed because in order to apply force you need speed. Footballers need power when shooting at goal. They need the quads and the calfs to gather up power on their way to the ball so that the shot can be harder and faster. Swimmers need power to be able to pull them through the water at pace e.g. when they do the freestyle they need to have fast, strong and powerful stokes. Boxer throw punch after punch, these punches need to be fast and power full so that they are unseen and effective e.g. a hook needs to be fast and power full so that the opponent does not see it and even if he does block the shot it will still hurt. Reaction time Reaction time is the time it takes for an athlete to react to a situation that is happening very quickly (The time taken to react to any stimuli). A goal keeper in football needs to have fast reacting times to be able to react to shots coming from 50yds to 2yds. Swimmers need to be able to react to the starting alarm as quickly impossible so that they are not left behind and can establish a lead. For boxers to be able to dodge in coming punches they need to react to the earliest stimuli and duck and swerve out the way. Agility Agility is the ability to stop and change direction or movement quickly. Footballers need agility because the game can change so quickly e.g. the goalkeeper blocks a shoot but the ball lands right in front of the goal, the player with best agility should react quickest and move fastest in order to defend it or strike it into the goal. Swimmers dont really need to be to agile but one place they do need it is when they are turning around for the next length because they need this switch of direction to be as quick as possible also being in water makes it harder because of the extra resistance. Boxers need to be agile unless they want to take hit after hit without getting out the way. When a boxer is be attacked by his opponent he will need the agility in his muscles to be able to move lightening quick to get out the way. Co-ordination Co-ordination is the ability to do something in a combination continuously. Footballers need co-ordination so that they can move the ball fluently between their legs because in football its not just putting on foot in front of the other it also about judging the speed of the ball and your own speed. Then when you shot you need to have placed your feet in the right places this takes co-ordination. Swimmers need co-ordination throughout a race. It quite easy but they need to co-ordinate when they should come up for oxygen so that they dont lose their speedy pace for example in the freestyle the swimmers have a number of strokes that they prefer to do before they come up for oxygen. This is all quite simple but if you lose your count and co-ordination then you can do too many stroke or too few and lose your oxygen pattern.

The Art Of Procrastination Essay -- essays research papers
As I sit here at my computer I restlessly glance at the clock; itââ¬â¢s 12:40 AM, approximately twelve hours until this essay is due. How could I have once again gotten myself into this terrible situation? I would love to say that thereââ¬â¢s some amazing excuse for my blatant irresponsibility, that some horrible catastrophe took place inhibiting the start of this paper. Yet sadly there is none; I can present no justification of this other than my own slothfulness. And even as I type I debate over the topic. Various ideas swirl in my head like a typhoon, none of which seem very appealing. I need to write about something I know, something that is like second nature, and most importantly something that I can bullshit about for a full 2à ½ pages. Of course, how could I be so blind! What better to write about then procrastination itself; over the years I have pretty much perfected the art of postponement. To the average person this may seem like an uncomplicated task; you may be thinking ââ¬Å"But Chad, anyone can wait till the last minute!â⬠And I grant that in that assumption you would be entirely correct; any idiot can be lazy. However the question is; can just any idiot wait until the last minute, pull an all-niter, and actually emerge victorious. Because that my friend takes finesse, and is not a feat for any mere amateur. So I encourage you to grab a cup of coffee and take a seat because for the next couple of hours I will be taking you on a crash course through the art of procrastination. The most important thing to consider when faced with blank paper and an equally empty cranium is the possibility of an extension of the deadline. This being the most ideal situation for the reason that it gives you all the more time to goof off; who knows maybe by midnight tomorrow youââ¬â¢ll be in a more productive mood. Convincing a professor to grant you an extension is not an easy task and may require a smidgen of deceitfulness; but seeing as how by this point youââ¬â¢re probably pretty desperate it shouldnââ¬â¢t present much of moral dilemma. Always remember that it is extremely important to measure up your victim and choose the most effective bait. While some professors are more cooperative and will grant you the extension with a simple excuse like ââ¬Å"My great aunt Bertha diedâ⬠, others can be rather a pain and may require a plea more elaborate such as ââ¬Å"The doctors say it may be a tumor and ... ...mind away from the task at hand. If you can stay awake you should have your essay done before too long. Although it will probably be an error filled confusing piece of trash, donââ¬â¢t stress, go to sleep. In the morning when you wake up proof-read your work, donââ¬â¢t panic! I know itââ¬â¢s probably pretty bad but it can be fixed. Go through and thoroughly read, fixing all errors and doing your best to make it somewhat decent. Once youââ¬â¢re done drag your lifeless body to class and turn in your finished work, hopefully youââ¬â¢ll receive a somewhat acceptable grade. If by chance you donââ¬â¢t, refer back to the bribery, blackmail, and threaten section of the paper. In the true spirit of this essay I sacrificed my grade and waited until the night before it was due to begin. I wanted to ensure that all information was completely accurate and truthful and I felt this could only be achieved through experiencing it first hand; therefore this is a true testament to the art of procrastination. I am confident that if I had taken the time and put more effort into this it would be drastically better. But then that wouldnââ¬â¢t have been procrastinating would it? And then what the hell would I have written about?

Explore the treatment of racism Essay
The writer of this story (country lovers) seemingly portrays a metamorphism of a relationship from the setting of fantasy and childish virtue, into harsh adult reality. The subject of the story is Thebedi and Paulus, two children from very different backgrounds, worlds spaced out, who build up a friendship while yet in the childhood stage of colour blindness; where friendship is based on character, rather than the colour of oneââ¬â¢s skin or their status in the pecking order of society. Innocence seems to be the theme of the story at the beginning and through out the story. Through innocence we glimpse a world full of hatred bias prejudice, favoritism and superiority. Where one is unaware of the happenings outside the insulating bubble of childhood and innocence, two words that present an image of purity. In the early stages of their companionship, while still in the cocoon of childhood, Paulus, the son of a rich white farmer and Thebedi, the daughter of a poor black farmhand (working for Paulusââ¬â¢ father), interact freely without guilt or secrecy as society does not yet influence or affect their thoughts of each other, reality has not yet seeped into their world. But as they reach the beginning of adolescence they begin to comprehend the concept of the ââ¬Ëseparating lineââ¬â¢, the stereotypical qualities that divide one race from the other. I think the author uses gender to initiate the ââ¬Ëmaster, servantââ¬â¢ mentality. The writer, Nadine Gordimer gives Thebedi the role of a woman, which in society is considered ââ¬Ëweakerââ¬â¢ than that of a man, Paulus. Thebediââ¬â¢s character is obedient, submissive and this is where the issue of race integrates with her character. Submission is the giving of oneââ¬â¢s self to a higher, superior being; in this case to Paulus, the white man. In this sense Thebedi as expected has to play a subtler role in their relationship as she lets Paulus dominate the whole show. Thebedi has two handicaps against her: the fact that, sheââ¬â¢s black and the second is that sheââ¬â¢s female. Her character is also that of a naive, trusting person, noiselessly accepting all that she is given, even though it does not please her. The dominance of Paulus character is plain as the nose on your face with the first and most important reason being the fact that he is white, the second being that he is wealthy. But despite those two characteristics Paulus seems to be a nice fellow, the kind of person who is straightforward with everything around him. Their friendship evolves from a platonic level into the advancement of them becoming lovers. However, everything is done in secrecy, as they now understand the ââ¬Ëimprecisionââ¬â¢ of their- liaison, their affections verge on unthinkable. As their relationship progresses, they become actors on two stages as the outside world begins to obstruct their relationship. They begin to vigorously take part in the contrasting worlds allocated to them, but when they are together nothing seems to have changed. Although one cannot deny the minor cracks that begin to evidently appear in their relationship. This leaves one wondering whether the racist feelings have been sown deep into their mind and like a latent volcano is waiting to burst forth, in a flourish of spectacular force. It seems that both characters seem to be living the present, from the memories of the past. Regardless from which perspective one looks at, it is indisputable that there is bound to be no equality in the relationship. As the final scene unfolds it makes one begin to consider that maybe this ââ¬Ëlove affairââ¬â¢ was destined from the beginning and was more a product of inquisitiveness than that of love. When Paulus first learns about his child, his true character emerges. We begin to see his selfishness in the statement ââ¬Ëdonââ¬â¢t take it out. Stay inside. Canââ¬â¢t you take it away somewhere? You must give it to someone. ââ¬Ë This shows his immaturity in his reluctance to take responsibility for his actions. This highlights two things; first, the relationship between him and Tabedi meant nothing to him, since Thabedi was black and secondly she was a female ââ¬â always being placed under men. It is as if he feels like he can wash his hands off Thebedi whenever it pleases him, regardless of her feelings. However when Paulus kills his child, one canââ¬â¢t help but feel totally outraged. The murder of the child is like an act of erasing any traces of his and Thebediââ¬â¢s union, their whole variety of ways. Also in the way most of the articles are covered mainly from Paulusââ¬â¢ perspective with hardly any from Thebediââ¬â¢s. The judicial system seems to have also failed in the sense of the way they handled the case. We farther more uncover the widespread complexities of racism in the Media and Judicial system. In the Media we see it in the form of Thebediââ¬â¢s name being spelled by variety of ways. A year went by before the same town the case was brought to trial, and a hearing date was set. This is also a stereotype, the way the judicial system is always failing the blacks, which is basically saying justice is not colour-blind. With all these obstacles stacked in front of her, why should she even begin to think that she could stand up against a white person? A feeling that is familiar with an oppressed black people. Paulus achievement is a typical one, the moral of the story being; the white always win. However I felt this story was too stereotypical and was written with favoritism towards the white, simply because it ended in a stereotypical way. It is also negative in the hidden message it seems to put across; that all unions between white and black canââ¬â¢t end up successful. Although I felt all these negative feelings about the story, I am quite pleased in the way Nadine Gordimer handled the stereotypes and showed the discrimination of societyââ¬â¢s structure in South Africa at that time.

Qs Registration - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 9 Words: 2638 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2017/09/20 Category Industry Essay Type Argumentative essay Tags: Development Essay Did you like this example? Question 1 The Construction Industry is a complex and unique compared to other due to its characteristic. Some of the characteristic of this industry is it involve many key players from either from inside or outside of this industry i. e. normally when someone said construction, the image of building, contractor, architect will cross into mind however, that only a basic key player; there are lots of them outside like arbitrator, local authorities, bankers and etc. to narrow down this issue, the profession normally involve are like architect, engineer, contractor and quantity surveyor. All these types of profession have their own responsibility and works towards the construction. However, each of them must be registered profession before start the works in order to have an authority in each profession later on. For example, for the quantity surveyor, they have two governing body that must be known and registered i. e. Board of Quantity Surveyor Malaysia (BQSM) and Instituti on of Surveyor Malaysia (ISM). First of all the governing body that a quantity surveyor must be involves with is BQSM. BQSM was made by an Act of Parliament which is the Registration of Quantity Surveyor s Act 1967, Act 1967, Act 487 (revised 1992). The board comprised of a president, who is a register members of quantity surveyor, and sixteen (16) of members which are appointed by the Minister of Works Malaysia i. e. five members holding the office in Public Service of Malaysia, five registered quantity surveyor that have at least six years working; involve with Malaysian construction industry and this five consist of four from consulting practice and one from private sector. One from any institution of higher learning, one from nomination of Board of Architect, and one from Board of Engineers and two ore are nomination from the president. Furthermore, each of the members in the BQSM is appointed in term according to the QS Act 1967 (Revised 2002) normally in 3 yearââ¬â¢s stages. In addition, this board also will act as a body for registration of quantity surveyor and practice firms consulting of quantity surveyor. This board is a body corporate body with unending chain and common seal and which may sue and be sued. According to Section 4 under QS Act 1967 (Revised 2002), there are several function of the BQSM stated like the quantity surveyor must be a registered with the board first before working and apply all the quantity practice to the community. The board has the authority either to approve or disapproved the registration of a quantity surveyor and/or the practice i. e. the firm itself. BQSM also will act like an advisor to the quantity surveying firm practice such as in case related to the issue of registration of the quantity surveyor. For example, the written notice will be send from BQSM to the misconduct quantity surveyor regarding either warning, summon or other actions that can be taken. The rate for professional charge each quant ity surveying practice will be revised time to time, with the approval of the Minister of Public Works. The scales of fees and charge for the provision of consulting quantity surveying services will be in board control. Next is to settle the disputes that arise in the quantity surveying profession. Moreover, the board also has the power to appoint the committee or arbitrator in order to settle that dispute. The disputes here mean only relating to professional conduct or ethics of registered, registered graduate or temporary registered quantity surveyors. Another function of BQSM is to act as a stakeholder in a contract for consulting quantity surveying practice in Malaysia. After that, the board is the one who will decide and determine what the codes are and conduct for the quantity surveyor. Therefore these codes will be the rules and the guide for each registered members. The BQSM also functioned in giving the quantity surveyor any information regarding the industry by held the various programs i. . developments programs in order to make sure the practice by the members are archive the standard require as a quantity surveyor. For example, the BQSM sometime conduct a seminar on the cost control and QS profession at the universities to give students clear and details information regarding the QS world. Before someone qualified to be a fully register quantity surveyor. He or she must enter and pass all the tests and exams that be conducted by the BQSM. The exam will be held by the board every years normally. Next, the examiners also will be the responsibility or the BQSM to decide i. e. he board will appoint persons or a body or institutions to be the examiner. Furthermore, the board also has the power to appoint whoever they want in giving recommendation regarding the examinations for the purpose of qualifying for admission to the profession. As we know, the construction involved many professions and each of them have their own board that supervise and orga nized like Board of Engineer and Board of Architect. In these boards, there a person that is from BQSM members that appointed by the board itself i. e. registered quantity surveyor to act on behalf of the BQSM in that organization. Furthermore, this not only focus ton these two boards only, but whatever board that are related to the profession of quantity surveying. The BQSM also concern about the studies programs and the students itself especially the students that are study in the quantity surveying practice. Therefore, to make sure they pass and graduate without having any difficulties, the board can provide the scholarship for any of them that interested to get the scholar from the BQSM. Next is to authorize any person to investigate the commission of any offence under this Act or any rules made under this Act i. . the Quantity Surveyors Act 1967. In the other hands, the ISM is an organization that combine all the surveyors profession like quantity surveyor, land surveyor, bu ilding surveyor, general practice surveyor and so on under one name i. e. ISM. ISM consists of four surveying divisions such as Building Surveyor, General Land Surveyor, Property Consultancy and Valuation Surveying and Quantity Surveyor. The main reason of ISM was made is to secure the advancement and facilitate the acquisition of that knowledge which constitutes the profession of a surveyor in the industry. Firstly, to make sure that the surveyors profession are widely known and recognized as a professional profession level same as other profession in the construction industry like architect, engineer, contractor and other specialist. Next is to encourage the works of the surveyors up to excellent level and satisfied the needs and requirement of the industry nowadays. Furthermore, another main function this institution is to combine and gather all the surveyorsââ¬â¢ profession together and then become a centre of the excellent for them i. e. assist and guide the surveyors unt il their success in their profession. Another function ISM is to promote and improve the standard of the professional practice and also ethics of the surveyors by organized development programs either in collaboration with BQSM or not. The welfare and rights of the surveyors also will be taken in account by ISM which is similar with BQSM. ISM also will be responsible for expanding the surveyors practice i. e. by incorporating related disciplines into our profession. Therefore, the surveyorsââ¬â¢ profession not only widely related but also become a well known profession later on. No matter what will comes later on, both body which are BQSM and ISM is there to promote the general interests of the profession and to maintain and extend its usefulness for the public advantage. So, both of them are importance for surveyors especially for quantity surveyors which is a person who have a widely knowledge and expertise not only in the construction industry but also other industry lik e private practice, government sectors, educational institutions, construction companies, property developers, banks and financial institutions, industrial companies and other commercial companies. Therefore with so many services that a quantity surveyor can deliver to the public, he or she should have these body to protect and make sure their works in accordance with the industry. Question 2 Nowadays, quantity surveyor (QS) is played important roles in the construction industry in order to fulfill the clientsââ¬â¢ needs and requirements. This jobââ¬â¢s value as a quantity surveyor is similarly and equally with engineer and architect in the construction work. If the architect do the design and artistic works and engineer with his/her civil and mechanical and electrical design aspect, the QS will be the person who will quantified all the amount of the works for both parties in form of quantity and rate. Furthermore, the unique of this profession is not only that, but also act as a person that in charge of the contracting matters in the constructions like a lawyer or arbitrator but in another point of view i. e. the basis is the same which is to advise the clients and parties that involve in the contract. Therefore, with all the responsibilities and knowledge that QS has, they will be placed in a strong position to take a leading managerial role throughout the development of a project. For example, they are able to assess the implications of changes in design, site conditions and working arrangements and give the client accurate budget and time estimates. However, to be fully registered QS are not as easy as we think. There are several methods and procedure to be followed in order to get that title. These procedures are stated in the Quantity Surveyors Act 1967.
